Free public school

Public elementary and secondary school is free for children of permanent residents. Children of some temporary residents may also attend for free; ask your school board.

How to enrol

  1. Find your school board by your home address.
  2. Bring your child's birth certificate or passport, immigration documents, proof of address and immunization records.
  3. Many boards assess English level and place students in English language support.

French or English

Most provinces have English and French school systems. Some offer French immersion programs.
